Upstream Color (2013) dir. Shane Carruth

The story of two people whose lives are severely affected by a mysterious parasite, which controls both their behavior and their identity.
Shane Carruth‘s second micro-budget feature film after Primer, met again with wide critical acclaim.
The narrative is again complex, yet a thrill to follow with outstanding cinematography and direction through time. The acting is also on a great level, particularly from the beautiful and talented Amy Seimetz in the lead role.
Often described as a “transcendental experience”. Inspired by the book Walden by Henry David Thoreau, which is also referenced in the film.
Produced on a minuscule budget of $50 000 – it was written, directed, produced, edited, composed, designed, cast and starred in by Shane Carruth. The marvelous cinematography was shot with a consumer camera (Panasonic GH2), yet this is impossible to distinguish upon viewing.

A must-see film by a true artist, one of the most talented independent directors working today.
