The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) dir. Woody Allen

In a New Jersey town in 1935, a movie character walks off the screen into the real life of a pretty young waitress, down on her luck and life during the Great Depression. A magical romantic fantasy film, a light and intellectual comedy in a style that is synonymous with Woody Allen‘s name.
A beautiful and creative film about love and the love of cinema, of cinema as a form of escapism and as a magical reality. Lighthearted, sweet and warm. One of Mia Farrow‘s best performances.
Woody Allen himself has ranked the film among his best, along with Stardust Memories and Match Point.
Great use of music, as is usual in Allen’s films. Well received, earning awards, nominations and acclaim from BAFTA, The Oscars and the Writer’s Guild of America.
