The Mosquito Coast (1986) dir. Peter Weir

A brilliant, but paranoid American inventor, dissatisfied with society, decides to leave the USA with his family and move to the jungles of a small Central American country, in hopes of building a better and simpler life there. A modern-day Robinson Crusoe story of an eccentric character, whose attempts at doing what is best for his family slowly spiral out of control. The dream turns out to be harder to achieve.
Very interesting plot development and good performances from Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren and a young River Phoenix.
Directed by Australian top director Peter Weir, shot in the USA and jungles of Belize. Based on the best-selling novel by Paul Theroux.
