The Man Who Wasn’t There (2001) dir. Joel & Ethan Coen

Circa 1949: a laconic small-town barber devises a complex plan of blackmail which goes awry. An outstanding Neo-Noir piece. Shot in color, but transferred to Black and White for stylistic reasons.
A complex and twisting plot and a refreshing addition to the genre. Memorable atmosphere and mood.
Notable cinematography from Coen brothers‘ regular Roger Deakins. Billy Bob Thornton plays a masterclass performance as the quiet, low-key chain-smoking barber Ed Crane.
Great support from a wide cast of acclaimed actors. Highly recommended!
