Run Lola Run (1998) dir. Tom Tykwer

Lola rennt: Lola has 20 minutes to find 100 000 Deutsche Marks in order to save her boyfriend’s life. Well acclaimed and very interesting take on the suspense thriller genre by Tom Tykwer. A rare film to take place (almost) in real time.
Experimental narrative follows three alternate timelines of the events, as well as the effect that each action of our characters has on their future and that of others. Avant-garde techniques, integrated animated sequences and interesting camera work. Dynamic, fast-paced and visually interesting throughout.
Themes of free will versus determinism, the butterfly effect, as well as the role of chance in life.
Inspired by Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Blind Chance (1987), as well as Alfred Hitchcock‘s Vertigo (1958) – which is alluded to in the film.
Filmed on the streets of Berlin. Nominated for 41 awards, won 26 and has since gathered a cult following.
