Mud (2012) dir. Jeff Nichols

In a small riverside town in rural Arkansas, two young boys encounter a fugitive on the run and decide to help him reconcile with his lost love. A touching coming-of-age drama inspired by Mark Twain and Tom Sawyer.
A portrait of a very specific part and culture of Rural America. Includes themes of love, growing up, masculinity, parenthood and family.
Beautiful cinematography with great use of the Steadicam. Great acting skill – from seasoned star cast members Matthew McConaughey, Sam Shepard and Reese Witherspoon, as well as young actors Tye Sheridan and Jacob Lofland.
One of the best independent films of the decade. Filmed in Southwest Arkansas, with over 400 residents involved in the project as extras and local kids. Well received at both Sundance and Cannes Film Festivals.
