Lilya 4-Ever (2002) dir. Lukas Moodysson

A young girl, abandoned in the impoverished slums of post-Soviet Russia, is forced into a life of prostitution and becomes a victim of human trafficking. Based on a true story.
Excellent realist direction with supreme performances from a young and largely unknown cast, including the 12 year-old Artyom Bogucharskiy supporting the talented Oksana Akinshina.
Filmed in Estonia in a characteristic manner from Swedish director Lukas Moodysson. Superb use of wide angle lenses.
Raw, emotional, depressing and gruesome. Definitely a memorable film, one of the few that adequately tackle the heavy subject of sex trafficking and modern slavery.
Critically acclaimed in Sweden and around the world.
