Spanish director Antonio Mercero is best known for his outstanding 35-minute psychological thriller, The Telephone Box (La Cabina) from 1972. In this intriguing and terrifying Kafka-esque tale, a man gets trapped inside a street telephone booth, unable to get out. Remarkably directed, the film cleverly draws in the viewer through a surreal atmosphere, which graduates from farce to horror. Perplexing, thought-provoking and memorable.
