Jackie Brown (1997) dir. Quentin Tarantino

A money-smuggling flight attendant is caught in a complicated plot between the police, a bail bondsman, and her ruthless employer, arms dealer Ordell Robbie. A masterfully directed crime drama from cinephile Quentin Tarantino, his homage to the “blaxploitation” movies of the 1970’s – an ethnic subgenre of films made for an urban black audience.
Excellent dialogue and captivating story from beginning to end. Tasteful violence in a characteristic Tarantino-esque world of quirky characters.
Superb performances from leads Pam Grier and Samuel L. Jackson, garnished with a wonderful supporting cast including Robert Forster, Bridget Fonda, Chris Tucker, Michael Keaton and an unusual character role for Robert DeNiro.
The film revitalized the career of 1970’s blaxploitaition star Pam Grier and also that of Robert Forster.
Screenplay adapted from the Elmore Leonard novel, Rum Punch.
Excellent and eclectic soundtrack.
