In Cold Blood (1967) dir. Richard Brooks

An unsuccessful robbery results in the murder of a rural Kansas family and two ex-cons on the run from the law. Based on the book of the same name by Truman Capote and the real-life Clutter Family murders by Richard Hickock and Perry Smith.
Great directorial work from Richard Brooks. A film rarely follows the book and event on which it is based this closely – some scenes were even filmed in the locations of the original events, including the Clutter family home in Holcomb, Kansas.
Robert Blake‘s performance in particular is absolutely magnificent. In addition, he bears a striking resemblance to the real-life murderer, Perry Smith.
A masterclass in black-and-white cinematography by the great Conrad Hall. Original musical score from Quincy Jones.
Received four Academy Award nominations and the status of an indisputable American classic.
