Seul contre tous: A horse butcher with a difficult past sees his life further crumble after being released from prison and lashes out against society. French-Argentinian auteur Gaspar Noé’s first feature-length film, a continuation of his short, Carne. The nameless horse butcher would again appear in a cameo role in Irreversible.
Shocking, at times very graphic representation of insanity. In the director’s unique style, with storytelling techniques in part influenced by Jean-Luc Godard and the French New Wave.
Narrated by a voice-over of the butcher’s internal monologue.
Photographed in the unusual combination of 16 mm film and the CinemaScope format.
I Stand Alone Cast: Philippe Nahon, Blandine Lenoir, Frankie Pain
