Following (1998) dir. Christopher Nolan

An unemployed writer has a hobby of following random people on the streets of London, which entangles him into a complex plot with a small-time house robber. The directorial debut of Christopher Nolan and a true independent, micro-budget masterpiece. Suspenseful and thrilling until the very end. “Following” makes perfect use of it’s limited resources to prove that cinema is an art that is not entirely dependent on large budgets.
Shifted timeline and chronological order, a technique refined by Nolan in his next film, Memento. Made for the microscopic budget of $6000, filmed over weekend for a full year at the homes of friends and family, and on the streets of London.
The film that jump-started the director’s career, nominated for the Slamdance Grand Jury Prize, winner of 5 awards at various film festivals around the world, including Rotterdam.
