Die Welle (2008) dir. Dennis Gansel

Die Welle (The Wave). A high school teacher enlists his students into an unorthodox social experiment, to explain to them how Fascism during Nazi Germany came to be. Based on “The Third Wave” and history teacher Ron Jones, who created the social movement in the 1970’s with the same purpose.
Expertly directed and well adapted, based on true events. The tension slowly builds as the teacher’s control over his students loosens.
Quality performance from ideally-cast lead Jürgen Vogel as Mr. Rainier Wenger.
A diminutive representation of the effects that autocracy had on Western culture in the 20th century, it’s motivation and the conformism in society, and how it gradually spun out of control.  A relevant treatise in the fields of sociology, psychology and political science.
Nominated at Sundance Film Festival and for the European Film Awards.
