Das Experiment (2001) dir. Oliver Hirschbiegel

Based on the 1971 Stanford Prison Experiment, a young man in need of money participates in a paid test where he and 19 other participants play prisoners and guards in a makeshift prison. The experiment starts with seemingly easy rules, but tensions soon escalate between the “prisoners” and “guards”. A superb study into the psychological effects of confinement and power over another human being, visualized in this excellent movie by director Oliver Hirschbiegel. A wonderful thriller which delves into the psyche of individuals and society, and sticks close to reality, as horrifying as it may be.
Based on the book “Black Box”, inspired by the true experiment by Philip Zimbardo in Stanford University, USA in 1971. Excellent lead performance by modern German film star Moritz Belibtreu as Tarek Fahd, Number 77.
