Cure (1997) dir. Kiyoshi Kurosawa

A police detective tries to uncover the secret behind a series of gruesome murders, all committed in the same manner, by different people who have no memory of what they have done. An intricate plot that draws the viewer deeply as the gruesome story unfolds.
Part thriller, part horror with a distinct Gothic tinge. Spellbinding and cold throughout. Expertly directed piece from a very talented auteur, Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Memorable visuals coupled with an unnerving soundscape. Notable performance from lead Kôji Yakusho, a frequent collaborator of the director.
A great introduction into the J-Horror genre of the 1990’s and 2000’s. A definite Must-Watch Hidden gem film that, despite being criminally underrated, has garnered a cult status.
