Blue Valentine (2010) dir. Derek Cianfrance

The story of a young, working-class married couple, cross-cutting back and forth through the timeline of their relationship. A wounding, painful, heartfelt and touching film about true-life love and it’s obstacles. A multidimensional storyline with excellent and layered characters. Emotionally gripping tale that delves into the subject of marriage, it’s pitfalls and hardships.
Superb acting from leads Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams with often improvised dialogue.
Masterful reaslist direction from Derek Cianfrance in only his second feature film.
Very well received throughout, yet still underrated. Nominated for one Oscar and the Golden Camera and Un Certain Regard awards at Cannes. Made with the low budget of US$1 Million.
