Bad Lieutenant (1992) dir. Abel Ferrara

A corrupt New York City police detective tries to balance between his drug and gambling addictions and his job. An absolutely mind-blowing performance from Harvey Keitel in the lead role of the unnamed NYPD lieutenant.
A gritty, sleazy and lurid depiction of a man of vice. Powerful and raw, uncompromising story and top-notch direction by Abel Ferrara.
Themes of Catholicism and religious redemption. The screenplay was written by actress and model Zoë Lund alongside Abel Ferrara. Lund plays a small part in the film and credit’s herself to the direction of some of the scenes.
In a later interview, Ferrara admitted to using drugs during the making of the film.
Received a polarizing reception, being both praised and hated by many. Named by Martin Scorsese as the fifth best movie of the 1990’s.
